Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani on Monday said an Italian delegation had
travelled to Washington to discuss pre-announced tariffs on
European goods with US officials, in coordination with the
European Commission.
"There is a delegation I sent to Washington today to discuss
with the American (officials) responsible about the tariff
situation", Tajani said on the sidelines of a congress in
Ravenna, adding that the delegation was working "in coordination
with the European Commission which has exclusive jurisdiction on
commercial agreements".
Discussing the perspective of US tariffs on European good,
Tajani said "the government has a project in mind to attempt to
ensure that our exports can continue to progress: meanwhile, I
think we must boost our presence on other markets, from Mexico,
to Gulf countries, to Indonesia, to Japan, to Turkey and, at the
same time, find a way to dialogue with the US".
"Our products are of great quality and those who want an Italian
product buy it even if it costs more.
"The high quality of Italian products is a guarantee that
enables us to look at the issue of tariffs in a manner that is
not too concerned", concluded Tajani.
