Pope Francis's situation was "stable"
on Thursday morning compared to the condition reported the
previous evening as the pontiff has entered his 14th day at the
Agostino Gemelli Hospital where he is being treated for double
pneumonia, Vatican sources said.
The pontiff "woke up, had breakfast and is continuing therapy,
also undergoing new tests".
The results are set to be communicated in a new medical update
on Thursday afternoon, the sources said.
The pontiff was not reported to have received new visits
although he is briefed on "what happens, in particular on the
prayer initiatives of worshippers", explained the Vatican
sources.
They added that the 88-year-old Argentine pope is continuing to
receive oxygen therapy and that he "sits in an armchair".
His mood "remains good", they said.
Earlier on Thursday, the Vatican Press Office said Pope Francis
had slept well during the night and was resting.
In an evening medical bulletin released late on Wednesday, the
Vatican said the pontiff suffered no further respiratory crises
but his prognosis remained guarded.
"Today's blood tests and haematocytometric tests" "confirmed
yesterday's improvement" explained the medical bulletin released
last evening on the conditions of the pope hospitalized at the
Agostino Gemelli Hospital.
The Holy Father, the note also said, "continues high-flow oxygen
therapy; today too he did not present asthmatic respiratory
crises. Respiratory physiotherapy continues".
"Despite registering a slight improvement, the prognosis remains
reserved", the bulletin explained.
