Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal
Pietro Parolin met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in
Kyiv on Tuesday as part of his first official visit to the
country since the Russian invasion in February 2022.
Zelensky described it as a "significant meeting".
"We discussed the consequences of Russian aggression against
Ukraine, the ongoing air terrorism, the difficult humanitarian
situation and the outcomes of our meeting with Pope Francis in
June in Italy," Zelensky said via X.
"We focused in particular on the decisions of the first peace
summit and the Vatican's role in establishing a just and lasting
peace for Ukraine.
"I am grateful for the Cardinal's support for our country and
our people".
