Former Foggia, Lazio, Roma and
Pescara coach Zdeněk Zeman, hospitalized Thursday in the 'stroke
unit' of the Policlinico Agostino Gemelli Hospital in Rome, is
stable, hospital sources said Friday adding that further tests
are scheduled while his therapies continue.
The hospitalization was decided after Zeman, 77, had "presented
a lack of strength and a speech production disorder compatible
with cerebral ischemia in patients with previous cardiac
comorbidity and previous stroke", they said.
As wishes for Zeman's recovery flowed in from all over Italy and
beyond, Pescara coach Silvio Baldini sent his best to the
Bohemian coach who led Pescara's last promotion to Serie A in
2012.
"I feel sorry for Zeman - he said - his health is putting him
in a bit of a crisis. He smoked lorry loads of cigarettes
though. All over Italy they love him".
Zeman was rarely seen without a cigarette during his coaching
years.
Pope Francis is currently being treated for pneumonia at the
same hospital.
