Blue Ghost lander landed on the Moon
Sunday with a key Italian-made navigation instrument aboard, the
second Moon landing by a private vehicle.
The Blue Ghost lander has landed on the lunar soil and on board
there is an Italian LuGre instrument for satellite navigation.
The vehicle, built by the company Firefly Aerospace is the
second private lander to land on the moon, one year after the
Odysseus lander of the Intuitive Machine.
The LuGre receiver was born from the collaboration between the
Italian Space Agency and NASA and made in Italy by the Veneto
company Qascom, which built the instrument and supports the
mission operations, and with the scientific support of the
Polytechnic of Turin, which contributed to defining the
scientific objectives and manages the data processing.
The president of the Italian Space Agency (ASI); Teodoro
Valente, said the event was a "challenge that has been won".
Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani also hailed the achievement,
saying:
"How proud, Italy is on the Moon. I just learned that a NASA
mission completed the moon landing operations also thanks to
Italian technologies provided by a Veneto SME. It is a historic
feat, yet another proof of Italian excellence that continues to
stand out in the world".
