The CIPESS (Interministerial
Committee for Economic Planning and Sustainable Development) on
Thursday approved the allocation of contributions for the year
2022, totalling around €14.5 million, as compensation for
territories hosting former nuclear power plant sites and nuclear
fuel cycle facilities.
The move was announced by Undersecretary of State with
responsibility for the CIPESS, Alessandro Morelli.
Italy exited nuclear power after a referendum following the
Chernobyl disaster but officials have said it is time to boost
the green transition by returning, with latest generation
ultra-safe plants.
