The Italian Ambassador to Dublin, Nicola Faganello, made his first official visit to the Irish city of Galway, assisted by Honorary Consul Fabio Bartolozzi.
The first day of the visit was dedicated to a meeting, at the School of Languages of the University of Galway, with the numerous Italian professors and researchers working in the departments of the important university (attended by over 10,000 students), a visit to the Assistant Commissioner of the local Garda Siochana (the Irish police), Cliona Richardson and, in the evening, a meeting with various representatives of the Italian community organised by the Honorary Consul Bartolozzi at Claregalway Castle.
On the second day of the visit, the ambassador joined the Group of 9 ambassadors from the EU Mediterranean Member States, the so-called Med 9 (in addition to Italy: Cyprus, Croatia, France, Greece, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain), for a visit to the Marine Institute in Galway (which works with EU counterparts to protect marine ecosystems, promote innovation and support sustainable development in the blue economy) and for a meeting at the University of Galway with the Vice President for International Relations, Alex Metcalfe, to explore possible initiatives aimed at strengthening exchanges and collaborations with the university institutions of the Med 9.
