Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi carried out an institutional mission to Pescara, where he met, among others, the president of the Regional Council, Lorenzo Sospiri, and the mayor of Pescara, Carlo Masci, the embassy informed in a note.
The ambassador, accompanied by the president of the 'Casa degli Abruzzesi in Spagna' association, Maurizio Di Ubaldo, was able to discuss and analyse with his counterparts the ambitious programme of integrated promotion dedicated to Abruzzo prepared by the Italian Embassy in Madrid and the Region in view of the celebrations in Spain for the forthcoming Republic Day on 2 June, which will include various economic, cultural and social initiatives. During his stay, the ambassador visited the Museo dell'Ottocento, the Casa Natale d'Annunzio Museum, the Cascella Museum, the Paparella-Treccia Ceramics Museum, and Cascella's La Nave Fountain.
Specific events will be dedicated to the entrepreneurial sector in its various components, from food and wine to high technology and automotive, as well as industries related to tourism, to enable Abruzzo companies to lay the foundations for increasing internationalisation towards Spain, which already represents the 4th largest export market for the Italian region. At the same time, the aim will be to make potential investors more familiar with the opportunities offered by a region that already represents an important outlet market for Spanish products.
The cultural initiatives will focus on the study of the figures of some great artists who were born in Abruzzo, such as Gabriele D'Annunzio and Francesco Paolo Tosti, among others.
An exhibition dedicated to the Cascella dynasty of painters and sculptors will also be organised at the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid. Starting with the progenitor Basilio at the end of the 19th century, passing through Pietro and Tommaso up to the living Matteo, the Cascellas were able to open up to the European avant-garde, while keeping their Abruzzese roots firmly intact. On the occasion of Republic Day, a sculpture by Tommaso Cascella will be displayed in the Embassy gardens as a preview of the exhibition.
The relations between Abruzzo and Spain - recalled the ambassador in statements to the press during the mission - rest on a community of 13,000 Abruzzese permanently resident in the Iberian country, well integrated in the local socio-economic fabric. It will be crucial to know how to exploit the potential for strengthening bilateral relations at all levels.
