Colombia was declared a 'priority country for Italy in South America in terms of cooperation' in December. This was recalled by the Italian ambassador in Bogotà, Giancarlo Maria Curcio, in a video in which the Colombian Foreign Ministry collected the opinions of the diplomats from the various countries who attended the working lunch with the new head of diplomacy, Laura Sarabia.
"It was a very productive meeting. On the part of our government, above all, we expressed our willingness to continue to collaborate closely. And as I mentioned during the meeting, in December Italy declared Colombia a priority country in South America in terms of cooperation. I believe this is an important result that will allow us to further implement the cooperation between the two countries, which this year celebrate 160 years of diplomatic relations'.
For his part, Sarabia explained that Colombian foreign policy aims to 'increase the capacity for influence in global processes that involve the country's internal interests and needs', and Bogotá also expects greater support for its total peace project, a discussion on the global approach to the drug problem, and environmental issues, especially energy transition.
