The 9th Italian Design Day organised by the Embassy in Tashkent, with the support of ICE, which provided the funding, and in partnership with the Tashkent Textile University and the Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce, was held with great success.
The day was attended by over 300 guests and benefited from a long live television broadcast on the national network.
Among the audience, welcomed by Ambassador Papadia de Bottini, were students from the Faculty of Architecture of Design, Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino campus in Tashkent, from Pisa and from other Uzbek universities that have academic relations with Italy.
The event also attracted a high-profile institutional and cultural audience, with the presence of prominent personalities from the world of culture and entertainment in Uzbekistan, as well as Ambassadors and other accredited diplomats
The 2025 edition of Italian Design Day in Uzbekistan adhered to the theme "Inequalities. Design for a better life', in close connection with the upcoming Universal Exhibition of the Milan Triennale (May-November 2025), dedicated to the theme 'Inequalities. How to mend the fractures of humanity'.
One of the most significant aspects of the event was the fashion show of clothes produced by the Italian company Beltepà with fabrics handcrafted by Uzbek women in marginal areas of the country, highlighting the role of female entrepreneurship in the traditional Uzbek silk and textile sector, in which ancient processing techniques have been handed down for generations.
Thanks to the collaboration with young Italian stylists and designers, locally produced fabrics are transformed in Italy into haute couture creations. The project was also a great success because it represents a virtuous model of cooperation between local craftsmanship and design, generating opportunities for young people and a source of economic independence for women in the country's smaller towns. A joint fashion show was also held between Beltepà and the young designers of the Textile Academy
Architect Saverio Isola presented an intervention on Italian design in museum architecture, also in connection with the Bukhara Restoration Centre, implemented with the support of ICE funds, in the enhancement and conservation of Uzbekistan's artistic heritage.
