Cristiano Maggipinto assumed today the post of Italian Ambassador to Wellington Born in Noci (Bari) on 20 December 1962, he graduated in Political Science from the University of Florence in 1987. Following a competitive examination, on 13 February 1989 he was appointed as a Volunteer in the diplomatic career, with commercial specialisation.
After an initial assignment at the Ministry's General Directorate for Economic Affairs, in 1993 he took up a position as Second Commercial Secretary at the Italian Embassy in Tel Aviv.
In 1997, he was appointed First Secretary for Social Affairs in Bonn. Following the transfer of the Embassy from Bonn to Berlin, in 1999 he took up the post of Counsellor for Emigration and Social Affairs in Berlin.
In 2001 he returned to Rome to take up his post as Head of the Secretariat of the General Directorate for Italians Abroad and Migration Policies at the Foreign Ministry. In 2006, he took up the post of Consul General in Houston.
In 2009 he was appointed First Counselor for Emigration and Social Affairs in Washington. In 2013 he returned to the Farnesina to serve at the Directorate General for Development Cooperation, as Head of the Communication and Evaluation Office. In 2017, he was appointed Ambassador of Italy in Kuala Lumpur. In 2021 he took up the post of Diplomatic Advisor to the Mayor at the Metropolitan City of Florence.
In 2024, he takes up service at the Diplomatic Ceremonial of the Republic.
He was appointed Ambassador of Italy in Wellington from 2025, with accreditation also in Nuku'Alofa (Tonga), Apia (Samoa), Tarawa (Kiribati), Vaiaku (Tuvalu), Avarua (Cook Islands) and in Alofi (Niue).
In 2006, he was appointed Official Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
