Within the framework of the Italian Design Days in South Korea, edition 2025, the Italian Embassy in Seoul, in collaboration with Ice - Agency for the promotion abroad and the internationalisation of Italian companies and the Italian Institute of Culture, organised the interactive seminar 'Inequalities - Design for a Better Life' at High Street Italia, the showcase of Made in Italy in Korea managed by the Ice Agency. The event made it possible to examine the new frontiers of design, also understood as a tool to reduce inequalities in contemporary society, ideally anticipating the theme of the Milan Triennale 'Inequalities. How to mend the fractures of humanity'. Among the guests of honour were the Italian architect and designer Fabio Novembre, as Design Ambassador 2025, and Kim Yang Soo, founder and managing director of the Duson Gallery, an art gallery renowned for promoting traditional art and contemporary design.
In her opening speech, Ambassador Emilia Gatto, stressing that South Korea is the largest market in Asia for per capita imports of 'Made in Italy' consumer goods, highlighted the importance of design as a cultural bridge between Italy and South Korea, also with a view to improving the quality of life through sustainable and inclusive practices. He also mentioned the rich programme of events planned to take place in Korea this year in the context of the Year of Bilateral Cultural Exchange 2025. Architect Novembre, known for his collaborations with leading Italian brands and innovative architectural projects around the world, offered a unique perspective on the encounter between art, architecture, tradition and modernity. Kim Yang Soo, a prominent figure in the Korean contemporary art scene, recalled his experience in promoting traditional craftsmanship and exploring new aesthetic frontiers.
The event was followed by a round table, moderated by design ambassador Novembre, during which new trends and profitable prospects for Made in Italy design in the South Korean market were discussed, in the presence of representatives of important Italian brands, some of which also set up exhibition corners in the High Street Italia showroom.
