The last session of the sartorial workshop 'Traveling in the Fashion World 2' held by fashion designer Samanthakhan Thisler, entrepreneur and lecturer at the Fashion Academy - Iuad, on the occasion of the celebration of the Day of Italian Design in the World, ended in Baghdad. In honour of the theme chosen for the Idd 2025, 'Inequalities. Design for a better life', the Embassy of Italy in Baghdad, in collaboration with the ICE Agency - Amman and Makers of Baghdad, organised a four-day workshop focusing on the role of fashion as a promoter of accessibility and sustainability, capable of bringing together different styles and traditions, as well as being a flywheel for more inclusive economic growth, a harbinger of opportunities for young designers as well.
Following the success of the 2023 edition, the event gave almost 35 students and teachers from the Baghdad Institute of Applied Arts, together with other experts in the field, the opportunity to get involved in the creation of new models inspired by the shapes of the famous Iraqi architect and designer Zaha Hadid. Starting on 17 February, the participants followed Thisler in creating a garment using the upcycle technique. Combining craftsmanship, entrepreneurship and creativity, the projects were realised in small groups, giving rise to a collaboration that equally exalted Made in Italy and Iraqi tradition.
After the first meetings dedicated to the study and packaging of the product, the presentation of the final projects took place on the last day to the enthusiasm of the authors, the vice-rector and the teachers of the Institute. The presentation of certificates of participation marked the end of a workshop that reaffirmed the role of fashion as a stimulus for inclusiveness and the integration of different cultures, ensuring fruitful collaboration between the various institutions involved.
