Italian Migrant Day was celebrated in Paraguay as part of the 150th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic and trade relations. The official event, held in Asuncion, was attended by Ambassador Marcello Fondi, local authorities and representatives of Italian associations, as well as Trade and Industry Minister Javier Jiménez, Tourism Minister Angie Duarte, and the capital's mayor Oscar Rodríguez.
A bronze statue dedicated to the significant number of Italian immigrants who arrived in Paraguay as early as the first half of the 19th century was unveiled in the historic site of the river port, in recognition of the important role they played in the socio-economic and cultural development of the South American country.
