"Italy continues to make a concrete and long-term commitment to support the Ukrainian population: we are making a donation of 13 million euro to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, aimed at stabilising energy supplies at a critical time for the country, which is constantly hit by Russian attacks against infrastructures in the middle of the winter season." This was the announcement made by the Italian Ambassador Carlo Formosa, who was visiting the city of Zhytomyr, the regional capital and important industrial centre, with a delegation from the Embassy.
In Zhytomyr, the Ambassador visited a medical first aid facility, recently equipped with solar panels manufactured in Italy by the Enel company and installed as part of the 'Ray of Hope' project, a humanitarian initiative promoted by the European Commission that has enabled over 5,800 solar panels to be donated. Thanks to the excellence of Italian technology, these photovoltaic systems guarantee a sustainable and independent source of energy, enabling the hospitals to remain operational and provide their services even in emergency situations. Present at the visit were Roman Andarak, Deputy Minister of Energy, Igor Kopach, Deputy Minister of Health, as well as Vitaliy Bunechko, Head of the Zhytomyr Region, and Halyna Shymanska, Acting Mayor of the City.
'In this intervention,' added Ambassador Formosa, 'we find the sectors of energy, health, and presence in the territories: the Italian strategy to guarantee support to the Ukrainian population, in particular to its most fragile segments, is developed with precise attention to the requests of the recipient country'. The Ambassador also met the Governor and Mayor to discuss the prospects of bilateral relations between Italy and the Zhytomyr Region, in light of its industrial and demographic importance and the role it will play in the future reconstruction of the country.
During the day, the Ambassador also visited two factories owned by Italian entrepreneurs in the city, expressing esteem and appreciation 'for how our compatriots, despite the dramatically adverse circumstances, continue to work in Ukraine, contributing significantly to economic resilience and ensuring employment for many people.
