'The government is continuing along the line outlined by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, making Latin America a priority of our foreign policy. And it is in this spirit that we have intensified our political visits. We are working to strengthen cooperation and shorten the distances with a strategic continent where 80 million Italo descendants live, too often considered by those who came before us as something exotic and distant, so much so that other actors can take the lead'. This was stated by the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Maria Tripodi, on a visit to Ecuador. On her second day in the country, Tripodi, accompanied by the Ambassador of Italy to Ecuador, Giovanni Davoli, met with Deputy Trade and Investment Minister Homero Larrea. Then with Deputy Interior Minister Fausto Iñiguez, she signed an Anti-Drug Memorandum of Understanding that sets out the terms of technical cooperation between the respective Interior Ministries in the fight against international drug trafficking.
Tripodi then met the Italian community and visited the Ferrero plant in Tumbaco, a world excellence of the Italian confectionery industry.
"I am very satisfied with this two days in Quito," said the undersecretary. "An intense mission, which follows the visit of the President of the Republic Daniel Noboa, which took place last May in Rome. I was able to see the depth of the relations that bind us to the South American country and how Italy is admired for its ability to transfer its best know-how, in various areas of mutual interest, first and foremost judicial and technological cooperation,' Tripodi continued.
