Italy's 5-star hotels generated
turnover of over nine billion euros in 2024, attracting 4.5
million guests and registering 12.8 overnight stays, according
to a report on luxury tourism released by the Demoskopika
institute on Wednesday.
The luxury segment accounts for 16.8% of the overall earnings of
the hotel sector, which amount to 54 billion euros, the study
said.
The luxury segment grew 9.2% a year between 2008 and 2024,
excluding the two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, while the
sector as a whole grew 5.2% a year on average.
Demoskopika said it expects high-range tourism to attract 4.6
million visitors and 12.9 million overnight stays this year,
increases of 2% and 1.4% respectively on 2024.
It said the tourists from Germany, the United States, the UK,
Switzerland, France, Austria, Spain, the Netherlands, Canada,
Australia and Japan accounted for 65% of the guests at luxury
hotels.
Italy's top region for luxury tourism is Lazio, following by
Campania, Lombardy, Sardinia and Veneto, according to the
report.
