Search operations continued throughout
the night after a woman was reported missing when a five-storey
building collapsed in the Puglia city of Bari late on Wednesday
afternoon, rescue services said Thursday.
Firefighters, Alpine rescue personnel, security forces and civil
protection officers are taking part in the operation.
The woman, who was identified as 74-year-old Bari native Rosalia
De Giosa, had not left the building after residents were evicted
last year when authorities deemed it unsafe.
The building's owners had started renovation work a week prior
to the collapse.
The two buildings next to the one that collapsed Wednesday have
been evacuated as a precaution and the 80 residents are being
housed by the municipality, including at a local hotel.
