Pope Francis rested well during the
night, the Vatican Press Office said early on Wednesday morning.
He woke up shortly after 8 am, it said.
According to the latest bulletin issued the previous night, the
pontiff was in stable condition and had no crisis on Tuesday as
he battles pneumonia at Rome's Agostino Gemelli Hospital,
following two respiratory attacks Monday and one Friday.
The evening medical bulletin said the pontiff had not presented
episodes of respiratory failure or bronchospasm.
He remained afebrile, always alert, cooperative with therapies
and oriented.
On Tuesday morning he switched to high-flow oxygen therapy and
underwent respiratory physiotherapy, said the bulletin. Francis
returned to mechanical ventilation during the night.
The prognosis remains guarded, the evening bulletin said.
