Police authorities in 2024 issued
2,746 stalking and revenge porn protection orders, up 44%
compared to the previous year, Interior Minister Matteo
Piantedosi said on Wednesday during a Question Time session at
the Lower House.
In addition, 5,858 domestic abuse protection orders were
recorded last year, with a 126% increase on 2023, the interior
minister noted.
Piantedosi told the House that 415 arrests were carried out last
year under new 'deferred flagrant' rules approved in 2023 that
allow to detain someone based on incriminating evidence
including phone records, videos and photos within 48 hours of
the abuse allegedly committed by the suspect.
Overall, more than 12,000 electronic bracelets were fitted last
year, including over 5,700 against stalking, the minister told
the House, stressing that the use of GPS bracelets has
"significantly increased" under new legislation passed in 2023
to better protect women against gender-based abuse.
