European Economy Commissioner Paolo
Gentiloni on Thursday warned that a report on European
competitiveness presented by former Italian premier and European
central banker Mario Draghi on Monday could remain "dead
letter".
"I hope the Draghi report, which arrives as a cycle ends and a
new one starts, will be the compass of the next European
Commission", Gentiloni told SkyTg24.
The report was commissioned last year by European Commission
President Ursula von der Leyen, who has been elected for a
second mandate.
The 400-page blueprint said, among other things, that the EU
needs massive investment, new coordinated industrial policies
and a faster decision-making process if it wants to keep pace
with economic rivals the United States and China.
