Premier Giorgia Meloni is using "in a
miserable way" the case of the Diciotti coastguard ship where
the supreme Court of Cassation ordered the government to pay
migrants compensation for keeping them aboard in 2018, leftist
populist 5-Star Movement (M5S) and two-time ex premier Giuseppe
Cionte said Friday.
"Meloni threw herself headlong into commenting on the Supreme
Court ruling on the Diciotti ship case," he said after the
premier called the ruling "highly debatable.
"We must understand her. She couldn't wait to distract citizens'
attention from the crazy plan to spend on weapons after the
devastating comments she received.
"The Diciotti case - he added - brings us back to an
international dispute with Malta, which had refused to carry out
migrant rescue operations in its waters. "This dispute was also
resolved thanks to my intervention, with the involvement of
other countries for the purposes of redistribution. "Sentences
must be respected. They can also be criticized", but "the
miserable criterion used by Meloni is certainly not acceptable",
he said.
