Italian MEPs voted largely against a
European Parliament motion that lifted restraints on Ukraine
using western-sent arms in Russia but the centre-left Democratic
Parrty (PD) and the centre-right Forza Italia (FI) party membets
were split on the issue.
Italian MEPs essentially voted against the EU Parliament
resolution that "calls on Member States to immediately lift
restrictions on the use of Western weapons delivered to Ukraine
against legitimate military targets on Russian soil".
However, there were sharp divisions in Elly Schlein's PD and the
post Berlusconi FI.
The delegations of the rightwing League and Premier Giorgia
Meloni's rightwing Brothers of Italy (FdI) were unanimously
against the motion, as were, on the left, the leftwing populist
Five Star Movement (M5S) and the Green-Left Alliance (AVS).
